Berend Brus is proud to present:

The Copper Album

a new evolving fashion project in which material storytelling and collaboration take center stage. Approaching fashion the way the music industry releases an album—The Copper Album is a set of stories that will be dropped piece by piece, rather than all at once. Every look is accompanied by a soundtrack, starting with the first single: The copper dress.

The copper dress—whose sound inspired the way the project is released—sets the stage for a narrative that will unfold over time. It is created with clear intention and in close collaboration with others. For years, Brus has been working with a growing group of performers and artists from amongst others art, music, theater and dance. Through intense conversation and collaboration, he created countless looks to elevate their stories on stage. For The Copper Album, Brus is turning the tables and invites them to help tell his story. In this way, Brus is building new bridges between his commissioned work and his autonomous practice, and challenges the pace of the traditional fashion system.

At the heart of the project is Brus’ ongoing research into a material that also follows its very own pace: copper. Copper oxidizes when it oxidizes, not when it’s forced to. It symbolizes resilience and transformation. Even when it’s beaten, scarred, and weathered, its essence and strength remain intact. In fact, it becomes more interesting. Through the first tracks of the album, Brus explores ways to capture that spirit—creating pieces that evolve alongside the wearer.
